Clarify the solution and purpose
HSS stands for heat-stable salts. Metrohm application note AN-S-343 discusses their accumulation in an MDEA solution and the effect on acid-gas absorption.
An operating issue does not by itself identify one sufficient test. State the solution, sampling point and question the measurements should answer.
Do not automatically merge two catalogue entries
REOCAT entry No. 83 refers to MVI-006-2025 for HSS in MDEA using potentiometric titration in methanol. No. 85 refers to MVI-008-2025 for alkanolamine solutions.
A shared short name does not establish procedural equivalence. Agree on the entry and requirement with the laboratory. Both source entries remain separate.
Include in the request
- Amine or mixture, grade and documented concentration, if known.
- Fresh solution or operating sample, with sampling date, point and identifier.
- The parameters required: HSS alone or a broader agreed programme.
- Available earlier results and requirements; attach a report or specification where possible.
When a group of parameters is needed
The amine-solution catalogue also includes total and soluble iron, suspended solids, mechanical impurities and other parameters. Do not add them automatically: describe the task and agree on the data needed for the decision.
For comparisons, list the required parameters for each sample. One identifier should not ambiguously refer to several different samples.
Sampling, delivery and method
Confirm quantity, container, storage and receiving address before shipment. Disclose known hazards. This article does not prescribe a universal sample volume.
The Metrohm source describes its own chromatographic application. It is explanatory external reading, not a claim that REOCAT uses that instrument or method. Laboratory procedures are identified in its catalogue.
Sources and scope
These sources explain technical concepts. Document applicability and the test scope are confirmed when agreeing on a request.
